EUobserver: European countries have limited intelligence sharing with Hungary

30 May 2024 18:26

European countries that are members of the so-called Bern Club have limited intelligence sharing with Hungary due to political controversies.

"There is frustration among less senior intelligence officials because Western allies are not sharing information with us the way they used to. But the higher up the hierarchical ladder you go, the less anyone cares," Hungary's intelligence community said, EUobserver reports, citing representatives of intelligence services.

The representative of the Belgian security services noted that instead of Hungary, which was supposed to take over the chairmanship of the Bern Club, Denmark would take over this responsibility.

The Berne Club serves as a platform for the exchange of intelligence between the 27 EU states, Norway and Switzerland. The organisation was established in 1971 and is headquartered in Bern, Switzerland.
