Eurofighter fighters to receive latest laser guidance systems
The Spanish Air Force, purchasing the fourth batch of Eurofighter fighters, will receive Litening V laser-guided containers manufactured by the French company Rafael installed on them.
The use of this equipment will increase the effectiveness of using all types of air-to-surface missiles and tracking ground targets. The current procurement includes 46 Litening V containers until the end of 2027, Defensa reports.
The use of Litening V both day and night will improve the ability to recognize targets and engage them. These containers are required when using laser-guided or global positioning system (GPS) ammunition.
“The Litening family is a combat-proven multi-spectral targeting module for airborne platforms that guarantees operational reliability and ensures mission success,” Rafael says on its website.
As indicated, Litening V provides images from infrared and colour HD cameras in real-time. It is noteworthy that among the platforms on which this equipment can be installed are Soviet and Russian MiG-21/27 and Su-27/30 fighters.
Moreover, Turkey is going to purchase 40 Eurofighter fighters of the latest modification, 20 at the first stage and 20 later.
