Europe set to end heating season with record gas reserves
As the heating season draws to a close, the European Union is poised to achieve a new milestone in gas reserves, potentially reaching record levels.
According to recent data as of March 24, European gas storage facilities were 59.18% full, holding approximately 65.62 billion cubic meters of gas, RBC reports citing data from the European Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators (GIE).
This marks the highest level of gas reserves on record. Preliminary projections suggest that by the end of March, given the current rate of fuel withdrawal, storage facilities will remain at around 58.2% capacity.
This anticipated record surpasses the previous milestone set just a year ago. In March 2023, European underground gas storage facilities were at 55.84% capacity, storing around 61 billion cubic meters of fuel.
The abundance of gas reserves signals a positive outlook for energy security in the region, providing a buffer against potential supply disruptions and price fluctuations. It reflects a concerted effort by European nations to bolster their energy infrastructure and enhance resilience in the face of evolving geopolitical dynamics and market uncertainties.
