Fire erupts on US Navy cargo ship in Baltimore Port
A fire broke out aboard a U.S. Navy military cargo ship at the Port of Baltimore on the morning of July 14, according to local fire authorities.
The incident involved the USNS Charles L. Gilliland, where flames were reported shortly after 1100 hours local time near the 2000 block of South Clinton Street.
"Shortly after 1100 hours, the Baltimore City Fire Department received reports of a fire near the 2000 block of S. Clinton Street. Upon arrival, units found two lifeboats on fire aboard the USNS Charles L. Gilliland. fully involved with fire. A second alarm was called for additional resources if needed. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The BCFD continues to invest in firefighter and command officer training for incidents occurring in maritime environments. This investment is critical to ensuring the safety of our members and protecting the Port of Baltimore," the Baltimore City Fire Department said in a statement.
