European Commission excludes Georgia from EU Enlargement Forum
The European Commission has confirmed that Georgian representatives will not participate in the EU Enlargement Forum scheduled for next week in Brussels.
EC spokesman Guillaume Mercier made the announcement during a briefing in the Belgian capital, as per TASS.
Mercier highlighted that, according to a previous EU enlargement report, the European Commission now regards Georgia as only a “nominal candidate for EU membership.”
He added, “The European Commission can confirm that Georgia has not been invited to the Enlargement Forum.”
The spokesman also stressed that the Commission has accused Georgia of straying from democratic norms and European values, a key reason for its exclusion from the upcoming event.
The EU Enlargement Forum, aimed at supporting candidate states, is set to take place on November 18 in Brussels and will include participation from other countries still formally recognised as candidates.
