European Commission vice president reaffirms support in Kyiv amidst Russian aggression
Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, has arrived in Kyiv on a significant diplomatic mission, demonstrating the European Union's steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.
Dombrovskis announced his arrival in Kyiv via a post on the social media platform X, accompanied by a photo taken at the Kyiv railway station, as reported by Ukrinform.
In his statement, he expressed profound admiration for Ukraine's resilience in confronting Russia's brutal and unlawful aggression. He reiterated the unwavering support of the European Union for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing that Ukraine's future lies within the European community.
"It is a great honour to return to Ukraine, which is courageously fighting back against Russia's brutal and illegal aggression, and to reiterate the unwavering support of the European Union. Ukraine, its people have already made their clear choice, whatever the Kremlin may have in mind. Their future is in Europe," Dombrovskis wrote.
Dombrovskis' visit comes at a crucial juncture, with Ukraine facing pressing challenges both on the security and economic fronts. During a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference, he emphasized the urgent need for substantial financial and military assistance for Ukraine. He stressed the importance of broadening the spectrum of international donors to enhance support for Ukraine's defence and stabilization efforts.
As tensions escalate in the region, Dombrovskis' visit underscores the EU's solidarity with Ukraine and its commitment to upholding international law and democratic principles. The European Union has been a key partner for Ukraine, providing extensive political, financial, and humanitarian support since the onset of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia.
