European Council head condemns Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza as “unbearable”
In a strongly worded statement, President of the European Council António Costa has condemned the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, describing them as "unbearable."
Speaking in an interview with El País, Costa expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, calling the situation in Gaza "unacceptable."
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is unacceptable,” Costa stated, highlighting the urgent need for international engagement to de-escalate the conflict and support the civilian population.
Costa emphasized that the European Union remains committed to promoting a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and reiterated the bloc's support for diplomatic efforts that aim to achieve long-term stability.
“The Israeli and Palestinian peoples deserve to live together in peace, free from violence and terrorism,” he said. “The path is difficult, but there is now a concrete hope for peace.”
Costa underscored that the EU expects all parties to act in accordance with international law and prioritize the protection of civilians.
“What Netanyahu is doing in Gaza and the West Bank is unbearable,” he concluded, signaling a hardening tone in the EU’s position regarding Israel's handling of the crisis.
