Uzbekistan, US discuss increasing commercial diplomacy

07 February 2026 17:40

The inaugural meeting of the American–Uzbek Business and Investment Council has concluded, marking a new step in strengthening economic ties between Uzbekistan and the United States.

As part of the launch, U.S. Special Envoy Ambassador Sergio Gor traveled to Tashkent, where he met with Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. Discussions focused on expanding commercial diplomacy and deepening bilateral cooperation across trade and investment sectors, Caliber.Az reports via Uzbek media

The council has been established as a permanent platform to coordinate trade, economic, and investment collaboration between the two countries. According to a presidential decree, its mandate includes overseeing the implementation of joint investment and trade initiatives and developing long-term strategic business projects.

One of the council’s priority objectives is the creation of an investment fund involving major international financial institutions, including the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, and the Asian Development Bank.

The decision to establish the council was reached during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the United States on November 4–6, 2025, held on the sidelines of the C5+1 summit. Under the decree, the council is co-chaired by Saida Mirziyoyeva and a representative of the U.S. president, and is tasked with supporting large-scale bilateral trade and investment projects.
