European missile group to unveil multi-platform weapons system Backed by UK, France
European missile group MBDA is preparing to launch a multi-platform family of weapons systems based on its Sea Venom light anti-ship missile, Caliber.Az reports via MIG News.
The Royal Navy (RN) originally developed the Sea Venom system for helicopter-launched use under its Advanced Anti-Ship Guided Weapon (Heavy) (FASGW(H)) program. Now, MBDA is promoting the system for installation on unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), fast patrol boats, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and mobile shore batteries.
MBDA sees opportunities for users seeking to deliver proportionate and precise strikes against surface targets in challenging littoral environments, both in Europe and the Middle East.
France and the UK co-funded the Sea Venom missile, which specifically targets a wide range of coastal threats, including corvette-sized ships equipped with point defence systems. The missile also suppresses land targets in the littoral zone.
