European Parliament to launch secure AI platform for lawmakers, staff

20 July 2026 13:05

The European Parliament is preparing to launch its own secure artificial intelligence platform that will allow lawmakers and staff to use neural network tools in an official controlled environment, according to Politico.

The platform, known as EPGenAI Hub, is expected to become operational in September and will provide centralised access to artificial intelligence models from companies including Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Mistral.

According to Politico, around 2,100 people, or approximately 20% of the European Parliament’s staff, already use AI tools in their daily work. Some members of the European Parliament have also used publicly available AI systems to assist with tasks such as drafting speeches, preparing inquiries, and developing amendments to legislation.

The European Parliament aims to create a unified platform to manage and regulate the use of artificial intelligence within the institution, while providing users with a secure framework for accessing AI technologies.

The initiative follows the European Union’s broader efforts to establish rules governing artificial intelligence. In March 2024, members of the European Parliament approved legislation aimed at regulating the development and use of AI technologies across the bloc.
