Evacuation efforts ramp up as foreigners leaving Iran via Azerbaijan Photo
Evacuation efforts are being intensified as an increasing number of foreigners make their way out of Iran through Azerbaijan.
Fifteen foreign nationals have been successfully evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan. The evacuees crossed the border on June 25 at the Astara checkpoint on the Azerbaijan-Iran border, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Officials indicate that those evacuated are Canadian and British citizens of Iranian origin.
The evacuation is part of a broader, ongoing operation aimed at ensuring the safe and orderly departure of foreigners from Iran. Several countries have appealed to the Azerbaijani government for assistance in repatriating their citizens, using Azerbaijan as a transit route. Since the start of strikes between Israel and Iran, Azerbaijan has become a key transit hub for evacuees from various countries, including China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, as well as the US, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and the Philippines.
