Ex-Chancellor draws line under political career

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2005–2021) has said she has no intention of taking on any further political roles.

“I have no strength, energy or curiosity for new positions,” she emphasized in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

Merkel noted that she has no desire to interfere in current politics. According to her, rumors about a possible run for the presidency or other positions are merely “playful speculation.”
