Ex-NATO chief warns alliance would collapse without US support
Norway’s Finance Minister and former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has warned that the alliance would not survive without the United States, stressing the central role of transatlantic cooperation in European security.
Speaking in an interview with SVT, Stoltenberg said: “No, it would not be the NATO we have known for almost 80 years, because it is precisely about Europe and the United States standing together against all threats.”
He underscored that NATO’s strength is rooted in unity between Europe and the United States, and cautioned against any potential divisions within the alliance.
Stoltenberg emphasized that all necessary measures must be taken to prevent a split between Europe and the United States, adding that the European Union would not be able to replace NATO in the field of security.
