Ex-US envoy urges American troop deployment to seize Iran’s Kharg Island
Retired lieutenant general and former US special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said in an interview with Fox News that he is firmly convinced of the need to deploy troops to Iran to seize Kharg Island.
“Look, we kind of need to do it the way the Romans used to do it. You know, you need to put your legions on the ground to secure the territory and […] open up the Strait [of Hormuz],” Kellogg said.
According to him, US forces are capable of reopening the lower part of the strait for navigation. However, he stressed that cutting off Iran’s “economic artery” on Kharg Island is also crucial. The island serves as a major terminal in the Persian Gulf, through which around 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports pass.
He expressed confidence that US servicemen, especially the United States Marine Corps, could do these operations.
