Explosive-laden car blows up near police station in Northern Ireland
An explosion occurred near a police station in Northern Ireland on the evening of April 25, when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The authorities said that after 22:50 in the Twinbrook area of west Belfast, a delivery courier’s vehicle was stolen, Caliber.Az reports via British media.
An explosive device made from a gas cylinder was then placed in the trunk, after which the car was driven to the police building.
The device subsequently detonated, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Police evacuated residents from nearby homes. No injuries were reported.
A criminal investigation has been launched on suspicion of attempted attack, with counterterrorism units leading the inquiry. The motive has not been confirmed. However, similar incidents in the region have previously been linked to republican separatist activity.
