Explosives experts detonate World War II air bomb in Italy
21 November 2022 02:29
A team of military explosives experts detonated a World War II-era aerial bomb weighing about 243 kg that was discovered in the Umbria region.
About 2,400 people were evacuated earlier due to the discovery of the projectile, TASS reports, citing ANSA.
In addition, in the morning of November 20, traffic was suspended on some sections of one of the main Italian A1 motorways, as well as train traffic between Rome and Florence.
Photos published in the media showed a column of black smoke rising tens of metres into the air after the bomb was detonated. Similar shells have been repeatedly found in Umbria over the years, ANSA notes.
