F-16 fighter jet lands in emergency on Greek island during training flight PHOTO

A Greek Air Force F-16 fighter jet made an emergency landing on Zakynthos island in western Greece on Thursday afternoon, July 9.

The aircraft was conducting a training flight when it was forced to land due to an unspecified technical malfunction, according to Lieutenant Colonel Konstantinos Gravalos, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Hellenic Air Force. He added that the pilot “is in good health.”

Authorities are currently assessing the condition of the aircraft, which may have suffered a landing gear-related issue.

The F-16 belongs to the 116th Combat Wing and had departed from Araxos Air Base in the northwestern Peloponnese.
