Factory evacuated in Poland after armed man opens fire
An armed incident at a manufacturing facility in Poland's Łódź city prompted the evacuation of hundreds of workers on the morning of April 1 after a former employee opened fire on the premises.
The incident occurred at a factory site operated by Gillette in the Nowy Józefów area. Police said the suspect, a 42-year-old former worker, entered the facility shortly after 7:00 a.m. local time and fired several shots at another employee, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
Authorities evacuated approximately 400 people from the site, with police indicating that all workers had been aware of the situation and that no injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the Łódź City Police stated that the suspect might still be in the immediate vicinity of the factory. Special forces units and a police negotiator were deployed to the scene as part of efforts to resolve the situation safely.
Police added that contact had been established with the man and negotiations were ongoing, but declined to provide further details, emphasizing that their priority remained securing the suspect’s apprehension.
