Failed grenade attack in central Iran leaves suspected militant dead
03 January 2026 11:02
An armed militant was killed in Iran’s central province of Qom after a grenade he was attempting to detonate exploded in his hands, preventing the planned attack.
The incident was reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing Mortaza Heydari, Iran’s deputy governor for security affairs.
According to Heydari, the individual was connected to terrorist groups. He added that "Iran’s adversaries, including the US and Israel, are seeking to destabilise the country and spread unrest".
Iranian media also report that clashes between protesters and security forces are continuing in various parts of the country, with fatalities recorded on both sides.
