Far-right party in Netherlands calls for total asylum ban, migrant deportations
The Dutch far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) has unveiled its election program ahead of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, calling for a complete halt to asylum applications, the closure of refugee reception centres, and the deportation of migrants convicted of crimes.
“We will close refugee reception centres and introduce a total ban on their admission in the country,” the program states, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
According to the party, a new asylum reception centre opens in the Netherlands “every 11 days,” with more than 300 currently operating nationwide.
In its migration policy section, the PVV declares: “Immigrants, including those with refugee status, must be immediately deported if convicted of a criminal offence. People with dual citizenship who obtained Dutch nationality through naturalisation must be expelled from the kingdom if they commit serious crimes.”
The party also advocates a ban on immigration from Islamic countries, full border closures, and the use of armed forces to patrol borders.
Additionally, the PVV calls for the Netherlands to opt out of EU decisions on migration and asylum, and if necessary, withdraw from certain international agreements in this field. It further proposes criminal penalties for providing assistance to undocumented migrants.
Snap elections to the lower house of parliament are scheduled for October 29, after the collapse of the ruling coalition triggered by the Freedom Party’s departure.
