Fatal gunshot claims life of Moldovan serviceman on duty

A soldier of the Moldovan National Army tragically lost his life after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound while on duty at a combat post, the country’s Ministry of Defence confirmed.

According to a report by Newsmaker, “The incident occurred on February 12 at 18:15. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed the death of the serviceman.”

Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances of the incident, while the Minister of Defence has ordered an internal review to ensure a thorough examination of the events leading to the soldier’s death.

“The Ministry of Defence deeply regrets this tragic event and expresses condolences to the family of the deceased,” the statement added.

This incident marks the second fatality involving a soldier and a firearm in Moldova within a month. On January 20, a 24-year-old serviceman was injured while on duty at the Florești garrison and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries four days later.

The ministry has emphasized its commitment to determining the causes of these incidents and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
