Fico may convey Zelenskyy’s message to Putin during Moscow visit
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico may deliver a message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his upcoming visit to Moscow on May 9, Slovak officials have said.
According to Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister Rastislav Chovanec, Fico could act as a communication channel between Kyiv and Moscow amid ongoing diplomatic tensions linked to the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
“Robert Fico will meet with the Russian president and may convey messages from the Ukrainian president, with whom he was in contact twice last week. He may also receive valuable information from the Russian president regarding the assessment of efforts to end the conflict,” Chovanec said during a meeting of the National Council Committee, as cited by Teraz.
The Slovak prime minister is scheduled to attend commemorative events marking the end of the Second World War during his visit to Russia. He is expected to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.
In addition to the Moscow trip, Fico is also planning visits to other European countries. He is expected to travel to France in June, while on May 7, he visited the former Dachau concentration camp in Germany as part of his commemorative programme.
