Finland plans to construct border wall with Russia

Finland, which has applied to join NATO, is preparing to fence itself off from Russia with powerful barriers. 

There is no talk of a solid powerful barrier yet. The wall was conceived to be installed only on "critical sections" of the border. Now the countries are separated only by a line of barbed wire, Russia-based news service Lenta reports, quoting Russian newspaper Izvestiya.

For the construction of the border wall, the Finnish authorities are preparing appropriate amendments to the legislation. Currently, the documents are undergoing the stage of expert opinion, and, as expected, a decision can be prepared before the deputies go on summer vacation.

On May 15, the head of the Federation Council's Defence Committee, Viktor Bondarev, said that if Finland joins NATO, Russia will strengthen the grouping of troops on the Finnish border. In his opinion, Finland and Sweden were "not eager" to join the North Atlantic Alliance, but the United States stubbornly puts pressure on these Scandinavian countries.
