Finland to implement stricter entry rules from September 1

04 July 2024 18:55

Finland is set to enforce stricter entry regulations starting September 1.

The Finnish government has approved legislative amendments outlining these changes, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

President Alexander Stubb is expected to formally ratify these provisions on July 5.

The revised law on foreigners will specify conditions under which a residence permit may be denied, including instances of providing false information, illegal residency or employment in Finland, and marriages entered into solely for obtaining residency.

Furthermore, stricter requirements will apply to asylum seekers seeking residence permits, including mandatory provision of proof of identity. Changes to the purpose of stay, such as seeking employment, will not be permitted for refugees.

Additionally, biometric data of individuals denied entry into the country will be incorporated into the Schengen Information System.

These changes align with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's government agenda aimed at tightening Finland's immigration policies.
