Fire breaks out aboard vessel off Oman’s northern coast — UKMTO

A fire has broken out aboard a vessel operating near the coast of Oman, according to a notice issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre.

“UKMTO has received a report of an incident 8NM northwest of Kumzar, Oman.  UKMTO have received information from a verified source that a vessel is on fire,” the statement said.

“The cause of the fire has not been verified as this time,” UKMTO added. The incident has been classified as “suspicious activity.”

Earlier reports said that two oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz via an unsafe route had exploded.
