Fire breaks out at France’s largest military training ground
A major fire has broken out at one of France’s largest military training areas — the Suippes camp in the Marne department, where the “Orion-2026” exercises are taking place, BFMTV reports.
The fire started in an area covered with grass and vegetation. Although it began in the morning, it was not publicly reported even after 15:00, with firefighting units reportedly given instructions regarding communication.
“The head of state is expected to visit it on April 30 as part of a trip linked to the ‘Orion-2026’ exercises,” the report said.
The French Ministry of Defence stated that the incident will not affect the schedule of the visit.
The 13,500-hectare training ground is used for armoured unit live-fire exercises. Several countries are participating in the “Orion” drills.
