Fire in high-rise apartment building near Burj Khalifa in Dubai UPDATE
A fire broke out at a high-rise building in downtown Dubai near the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa on November 7.
According to the AP, the fire spread quickly up the side of the 32-floor building in the morning hours.
It was built by the Emirati construction giant Emaar Properties, a state-backed developer who has greatly contributed to the construction of Dubai's skyline. Neither the developer nor Dubai police or civil defense officials have officially commented on the incident, according to AP.
The fire developed in the same way as previous accidents in Dubai involving the burning of flammable siding material.
A resident of the building, 8 Boulevard Walk, told the AP that the cladding of the high-rise was planned to be replaced after a similar fire occurred on New Year's Eve 2015, but it was not replaced across the entire building.
