First batch of Latvian Patria armoured vehicles arrives in Ukraine

15 July 2025 17:45

The first batch of Patria heavy armoured vehicles from Latvia has arrived in Ukraine, with additional units on the way, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced following a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa in Kyiv.

The delivery is part of a new Latvian military aid package that includes 42 units of armoured and other military equipment valued at approximately €70 million, Caliber.Az reports via Shmyhal’s Telegram page.

During their talks, Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Latvia’s continued support across military, political, humanitarian, and sanctions-related areas. He noted that Latvia remains one of Ukraine’s leading supporters relative to GDP contribution.

The two leaders also discussed expanding cooperation between Ukrainian and Latvian defence manufacturers, particularly in the areas of innovation and joint production of military equipment and drones. They explored opportunities to utilise the European SAFE instrument to fund joint projects.

On the sanctions front, Shmyhal reiterated Ukraine’s expectation that the European Union will soon approve its 18th package of sanctions against Russia, aimed at further weakening the Kremlin’s ability to finance its war.

The talks also covered post-war recovery. Shmyhal thanked Latvia for its involvement in the reconstruction of the Chernihiv region and discussed prospects for Latvian companies to assist with critical infrastructure projects.

"I thank the Government and people of Latvia for their solidarity and consistent support for Ukraine," Shmyhal said.
