Five injured in explosion at Serbia’s key ammunition production facility
An explosion occurred at the Serbian defence manufacturing plant "Krušik," located in the city of Valjevo, injuring five employees.
The incident took place during scheduled operations involving the pressing of pentrite, a high explosive component.
According to a statement from the company managing the plant, the booster of the igniter unexpectedly activated on the press machine. This malfunction caused one worker to sustain cuts, while four other employees suffered from tinnitus, or ringing in their ears, Caliber.Az reports.
All of the injured personnel were immediately transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. The company has not reported any fatalities related to the incident.
Krušik is recognised as one of Serbia’s largest and most significant defence enterprises. The plant specialises in the production of various types of ammunition, including anti-tank missiles and mortars, playing a crucial role in the country’s defence industry.
The company is currently investigating the cause of the explosion to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of its workforce.
