Florida moves to rename Palm Beach International Airport after Trump
Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is set to be renamed in honour of US President Donald Trump, following a decision confirmed by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
According to the announcement, the new designation will take effect on July 9. The airport, situated near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, will officially be renamed “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the airport’s three-letter identifier will also be changed, shifting from PBI to DJT — a reference to the president’s initials.
The move follows an initiative previously approved at the state level in Florida, where the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Senate supported the relevant legislation enabling the renaming.
Located just a few kilometres from Mar-a-Lago, the airport serves as one of the primary transportation hubs in the Palm Beach region.
The change will add the airport to a growing list of institutions and infrastructure named after Trump. A similar decision had earlier been taken in Washington, where the Kennedy Centre was renamed the Trump-Kennedy Centre.
