FM: Armenia, Azerbaijan to drop lawsuits after peace deal
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said that Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed that once their peace agreement takes effect, both countries will simultaneously withdraw their international lawsuits.
Mirzoyan explained that after the agreement is officially enacted and both parties retract their claims, they will also commit to refraining from filing any further lawsuits regarding issues that existed before the signing of the agreement, Caliber.Az reports via Armenia media.
He emphasised, “When the agreement comes into force and both parties withdraw their claims, both sides will be obligated not to file any further claims against each other regarding issues that existed prior to the signing of the agreement. Despite the disputes we currently have, it is expected that both sides will proceed towards reconciliation.”
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed on March 13 that negotiations on the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have concluded, with both sides agreeing on the text, marking a significant step in the peace process. Pashinyan, speaking to journalists, assured that while the full text has not been publicly released, key details have been shared transparently.
He mentioned that discussions on the timing and location for signing the agreement would soon begin. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has also expressed readiness to engage in further discussions, stressing that amendments to Armenia’s constitution and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group are crucial conditions for the agreement's signing.
