FM: China seeks to advance new strategic partnership with Canada
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday, May 29, that China is ready to work with Canada to strengthen bilateral ties and advance what he described as a new strategic partnership between the two countries.
Wang made the remarks during talks with former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, as per Chinese media.
During the meeting, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised Chrétien's role in China-Canada relations, noting that he helped initiate the "golden decade" of cooperation between the two countries during his time in office.
Wang said that improving relations between China and Canada aligns with the interests and aspirations of both nations. He added that China looks forward to working with Canada to jointly advance the China-Canada new strategic partnership.
For his part, Chrétien highlighted China's rapid economic development and emphasized the complementary nature of the Canadian and Chinese economies.
He also expressed his willingness to continue contributing to friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
