FM Szijjártó offers Hungary as venue for US–Russia peace talks
The Hungarian government is prepared to host peace negotiations between Russia and the United States at any time to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said.
He made the remarks in response to a question about the possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“Hungary is ready to host the US-Russian peace talks at any time. During my talks in the United States last week, it became clear to me that the Americans had not at all given up on the possibility of holding a peace summit," Szijjártó said at a press conference following his meeting in Budapest with Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar.
The minister emphasised that such a summit would deliver tangible results that could finally bring peace back to Central Europe.
Hungary has repeatedly expressed its willingness to serve as a neutral venue for dialogue between Moscow and Washington, positioning itself as one of the few EU states maintaining open channels with both capitals.
Budapest has already proposed hosting preliminary talks under the framework of a wider European peace initiative, although no formal planning has been confirmed.
The White House, however, has clarified that there are currently “no plans” for a Trump–Putin meeting, citing the need for broader coordination with NATO allies before any engagement can take place.
