Foreign drone fragment found at nature reserve in Estonia
A civilian discovered a large fragment of a foreign drone washed ashore near the Luitemaa Nature Reserve in Pärnu County, Estonia, on the morning of September 27.
The reserve, located in a remote area about 40 kilometers from the Latvian border, is known for its pine forests, bogs, and coastal dunes, Caliber.Az reports per Estonian media.
Estonian authorities, including the Internal Security Service (ISS), the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), and the Rescue Board, quickly responded to the scene to investigate how the drone fragment ended up on the coastline and to collect evidence.
According to Chief State Prosecutor Taavi Pern, there is currently no evidence to suggest the drone flew into or crashed within Estonian airspace, nor is there any indication that it contained explosives or posed a threat to flight safety.
Authorities have issued a public warning urging people who come across suspected drones or drone parts to treat them like potential explosives: do not approach, keep a safe distance, call emergency services at 112, warn others nearby, and avoid sharing images or information on social media.
This incident follows a similar case in late August, when a farmer in Elva municipality, Tartu County, found debris from an exploded strike drone, alongside a crater at the site.
The Estonian government continues to monitor these developments closely amid regional security concerns.
