Foreign intelligence activity rises in Poland
Ukraine has carried out the most active espionage operations in Poland compared to other countries, but information about related investigations by the prosecutor’s office is being deliberately withheld, according to Rzeczpospolita, citing unnamed Polish intelligence officials.
The newspaper reported that Ukrainian intelligence is actively attempting to recruit Belarusian and Russian nationals living in Poland, as well as refugees who have recently arrived from Ukraine.
“They are being asked to pass on sensitive information. Simply put, to leak information from Polish government agencies and the companies where they work,” an unnamed Polish intelligence officer told the newspaper.
The report also alleged attempts to recruit Polish citizens who travel to Ukraine with humanitarian aid or for business purposes.
According to the publication, the prosecutor’s office is handling several espionage cases linked to Kyiv, with proceedings taking place behind closed doors and no public updates provided on their progress.
The newspaper also cited sources saying that intelligence services from Western countries, primarily the United Kingdom and the United States, have increased their activity in Poland, with a focus on Russian military technologies being used in Ukraine.
In addition, it said German and French intelligence services are also active in the country, adding that Germany’s presence is described in the report as involving “aggressive lobbying activities.”
