Israel may start new war against Iran – Foreign Policy

Israel is likely to launch another war with Iran before December—perhaps even as early as late August, Caliber.Az reports, citing Foreign Policy.

The publication claims that Israel could strike Iran again this year to prevent Iran from developing capabilities that could challenge Israel's military superiority.

Regardless of whether Iran resumes uranium enrichment, Israel is determined to deny it time to replenish its missile arsenal, restore air defences, or deploy improved systems. 

The prospect of renewed hostilities builds on the fallout from the short-lived Israel-Iran war in June 2025, a 12-day conflict that marked the first direct military exchange between the two nations in decades and drew in U.S. involvement under President Donald Trump.

The war erupted on June 13, 2025, when Israeli aircraft conducted decapitation strikes on Iranian military sites, targeting air defences, missile facilities, and high-level officials in response to alleged Iranian plots and proxy attacks. Iran retaliated with drone and missile barrages, leading to an escalating air campaign that strained regional alliances and exposed vulnerabilities in both sides' defences.

U.S. intelligence later assessed that American strikes, authorised by Trump, failed to fully neutralise Iran's nuclear infrastructure, though they inflicted significant damage on military assets. The conflict highlighted gaps in U.S. missile stockpiles and degraded Israel's air defences, according to post-war analyses.

By June 23, amid mounting international pressure and domestic political challenges, President Trump announced a "complete and total ceasefire" between the parties, which took effect shortly after.
