Former FM to lead Venezuela’s new mission in US
Venezuela has appointed former foreign minister Felix Plasencia as its new diplomatic representative to the United States, with plans for him and his team to travel there in the near future.
According to Caliber.Az, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto announced the decision in a post on his Telegram channel.
“Plasencia and his team will soon head to the United States. Their task will be to strengthen constructive cooperation and develop bilateral relations in the energy, political, and economic spheres,” Pinto wrote.
The foreign minister also noted that a US diplomatic representative, Laura Dogu, has recently arrived in Venezuela and was received by the country’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez.
“This meeting marks the beginning of the diplomacy of peace based on respect for the sovereignty of both nations,” Pinto added.
Venezuela cut diplomatic relations with the United States in 2019 after Washington recognised opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s president. Following that decision, US diplomats were required to leave Venezuela.
