Former NATO General says West must prepare for war with Russia
Former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, NATO General Richard Shirreff, said Western countries should prepare for war with Russia to show Russian President Vladimir Putin "all the seriousness.”
RBC-Ukraine quotes Shirreff’s interview with BBC as saying that the general is convinced that the obvious escalation of military goals is "absolutely the right approach".
“Significant resources must be allocated to this, and must be done throughout the Alliance,” Shirreff said.
In addition, the former NATO commander warned that Putin could react aggressively, but said that this escalation was needed to show the "seriousness of the West."
“The worst option is a war with Russia. Preparing for the worst is likely to deter Putin because, after all, Putin respects strength,” Shirreff concluded.
