Former Zelenskyy Office deputy Iryna Mudra remanded in custody

Former deputy head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Office Iryna Mudra has been remanded in custody for 60 days, with the option of release on 20 million hryvnias ($448,000) bail, UNIAN reported, citing the court.

Prosecutors had sought bail of 150 million hryvnias ($3.3 million).

Zelensky dismissed Mudra from her position as deputy head of his office on Aug. 19, shortly after searches were conducted at her premises.

The case stems from a special operation announced last Wednesday by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) targeting an alleged group involved in the legalisation of proceeds obtained through criminal activity.

According to NABU, the group included a deputy head of Zelensky’s office, a former lawmaker, and the chairman and supervisory board head of state-owned Sense Bank. Searches were conducted at Mudra’s premises as well as at the bank’s headquarters.

Recordings released by NABU allegedly show Mudra discussing issues related to establishing control over the bank.

Zelensky subsequently signed a decree dismissing Mudra amid the unfolding scandal.
