Formula 1 meets the sky: Texas launches first-ever air racing championship VIDEO
The UP.Summit racetrack in Texas, the US, has hosted its first-ever air races, modelled on Formula 1, Mash Sport reports.
Four pilots competed on a winding aerial course, reaching speeds of up to 102 km/h. The track stretched 3.2 km, and flight altitude was limited to 50 meters to ensure safety.
The event was conducted with support from U.S. aviation regulators. All participants flew certified vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft that met the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) safety requirements.
Organisers highlighted strong public interest: over 15,000 viewers followed the races online, while around 2,000 attended in person at the racetrack. Plans are now being considered to hold regular competitions and potentially establish a dedicated championship.
