Four children perish in deadly electric moped accident in Uzbekistan
Four children lost their lives after a cargo electric moped carrying eight people fell into a canal in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
The tragic incident occurred on May 31. Authorities said eight people were traveling on the vehicle when it plunged into the water. Four passengers were rescued by local residents who responded to the scene.
In a statement, the ministry said preliminary findings indicate that the driver was transporting a total of eight people on the electric moped.
“During the preliminary investigation, it was established that a resident of the Ukrach neighborhood in Pakhtachi District, born in 1984, was giving rides on his electric moped to a total of eight people — his wife and six minor children (his own children and children from a neighboring household),” the ministry said.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether any safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
