Four officials killed in Kyrgyzstan after car plunges into canal
Four local officials, including the heads of three villages, were killed in a traffic accident in Kara-Suu district in Kyrgyzstan after their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a canal, according to Kyrgyz media.
The crash occurred a day earlier on a road leading to the village of Kyzyl-Suu. According to the regional road safety authority, a Hyundai Accent driven by a 66-year-old man identified as A.A. left the roadway and fell into a canal.
The driver and all three passengers died at the scene.
Authorities in the Osh region confirmed the identities of the victims. Those killed included Asamidin Uraimov, 64, head of Zhany-Aryk village; Abdulaziz Mamataliyev, 50, head of Tash-Aryk village; and Abdisatar Aliyev, 68, head of Ak-Terek village. Also among the dead was municipal official Bakhtiyar Asanov, 49. The group had been travelling to attend a funeral.
Amankan Kenjebayev, the presidential representative in the Osh region, said that compensation for the victims’ families would be considered after the investigation is completed.
