France committed atrocities in countries it colonized French editor-in-chief says
Founder, and editor-in-chief of the French news portal "Musulmans en France" Jean-Michel Brun has said that France committed atrocities in the countries it colonized.
He made the remarks as he addressed the conference on “Decolonization: Empowerment and Development of Women” organized by the Baku Initiative Group, Report informs.
"In 1958 in Algeria, women were forced to remove the veil, supposedly a symbol of freedom. But true freedom is for women to choose how to dress themselves," he said.
According to Brun, Azerbaijan is a role model for gender equality.
"In Azerbaijan, women work equally with men. This is one of the proofs of gender equality in Azerbaijani society," Brun said.
In the same vein, addressing the conference, Jacqueline Desfontaines, representative of the International Committee of African Americans, described Azerbaijan's support to fight against neo-colonialism as very valuable.
“Azerbaijan's support for the efforts of countries and organizations in the fight against neo-colonialism is of crucial importance.
Today's event showed that Azerbaijan is interested in the fight against the colonial policy of France, which it has pursued for centuries," she said.
According to her, the topics discussed at the event are very topical at the moment: "We live in the 21st century and the problem of decolonization and women's rights should already be addressed".
