France confirms its involvement in repelling Iranian strike on Israel

02 October 2024 16:37

French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly condemned Iran's new missile attacks on Israel.

Macron reiterated France's demand that Hezbollah cease its terrorist actions against Israel and its population, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

The president added that in a sign of its commitment to Israel's security, France mobilized its military resources in the Middle East on October 2.

The French leader also wished for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity to be reinstated in strict compliance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Iran said early on October 2 that its missile attack on Israel was finished barring further provocation, while Israel and the US promised to retaliate against Tehran's escalation as fears of a wider war intensified.

Notably, in a dramatic escalation of ongoing tensions, Iran has launched an unprecedented missile attack on Israel, firing a significant number of projectiles in response to recent Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on October 1 that the missile strikes were a retaliation for deadly Israeli assaults on civilians and the targeted killings of senior leaders from the IRGC, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

In the wake of the attack, both Israel and its principal ally, the United States, reported that their military forces collaborated to intercept and destroy the majority of the nearly 200 missiles that were fired. This latest incident underscores the increasing volatility in the region, as hostilities continue to escalate following weeks of heightened violence.
