France considers sending Eutelsat terminals to Iran amid internet blackout, FM says
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on January 14 the country is looking at the possibility of sending Eutelsat satellite terminals to Iran to help restore internet access after a recent communications blackout imposed by Iranian authorities.
"We are exploring all options, and the one you have mentioned is among them," Barrot told lawmakers in parliament when asked about sending the terminals, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Nationwide protests erupted in late December 2025, initially driven by economic hardship, sharp currency collapse, rising inflation and living costs. Demonstrations quickly expanded into broad anti‑government unrest demanding political change.
On January 8, 2026, Iranian authorities imposed a near‑total internet and telecommunications blackout — effectively disconnecting most of the country from the global internet.
