France experiences temperature records day
Due to the extreme heat, almost the entire continental part of France was on Monday in weather hazard modes: by the evening, 69 departments remained in the "orange" degree, and in 15 - "red".
According to the national meteorological service Meteo-France, a number of historical temperature records have been broken, Interfax reports.
The media note that even in the traditionally cooler Brittany, the thermometers reached unprecedented levels. So, in Brest (Finistère department) a record of 39.3 degrees was recorded.
In the city of Nantes located to the south at the mouth of the Loire (department of the Atlantic Loire), 42 degrees are registered. In Saintes (department of Charente-Maritime) - 41.1. In the commune of Biscarrosse in the southwest of the country (Department of Landes) - 42.6 degrees. In the region of raging forest fires in the Gironde department (New Aquitaine region), a temperature of 42.4 degrees was noted.
In western France, along the Atlantic coast, 15 departments are in a high - "red" - degree of weather danger.
The "orange" degree was announced in the French capital - Paris. The mayor's office has revised up its own municipal risk assessment and declared a grade three out of four. Among the measures taken by the city, the authority is an earlier-than-usual closing of nurseries on Monday and Tuesday. Citizens are urged not to stay in the sun for a long time and not to forget about the need for regular water consumption.
