France lifts quarantine on norovirus-hit cruise ship

French authorities have lifted quarantine measures on a cruise ship where a norovirus outbreak had previously been recorded, according to The Guardian.

More than 1,700 people were on board the vessel, which had been docked in Bordeaux, including 1,233 passengers and 514 crew members. Most passengers were from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Isolation measures were introduced following the death of a 90-year-old passenger amid the outbreak of gastroenteritis. The cruise operator, Ambassador Cruise Line, later reported 48 infected passengers and one crew member showing symptoms of a gastrointestinal infection.

Local authorities subsequently allowed passengers without symptoms to disembark, while those infected remained on board in isolation.

According to sources, the illness is not linked to any outbreak of Hantavirus previously discussed in the media.
