France refuses to join Strait of Hormuz military actions

France has confirmed it will not take part in any efforts to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, President Emmanuel Macron announced during a National Defence Council session, which was broadcast via the Élysée Palace’s X account.

“Under no circumstances will France participate in operations to open or unblock the Strait of Hormuz under current conditions,” Macron stated, underscoring the country’s cautious stance amid rising regional tensions.

The French president clarified that, although France is not a party to the ongoing conflict, it stands ready to take measures to ensure the safety of maritime navigation in the strait once hostilities have ceased.
