France to increase number of police, gendarmes on border with Italy
France will increase the number of police and gendarmes on the border with Italy in connection with the growth of migration flows.
According to TASS, this was announced by the head of the French government, Elisabeth Borne, following a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Elysee Palace.
“We will intensify our actions in the field of combating illegal migration, as this is the government's priority,” the prime minister said, presenting at a briefing the country's development program called “100 days” developed on behalf of French President Emmanuel Macron.
“Starting next week, we will send an additional 150 police and gendarmes to the Alpes-Maritimes department. By the summer, a special border detachment will begin to work, which will unite the forces of internal security, customs officers and the military,” Borne said.
According to her, "these measures are associated with an increase in migration flows from Italy."
