Latvia expels 841 Russians over expired residence permits
Latvian authorities have demanded that 841 Russian nationals leave the country for failing to comply with new residency regulations, the LETA news agency reports, citing the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.
The individuals in question did not submit the necessary documents to obtain a new European Union permanent resident status, leading to the expiration of their previous residence permits. As a result, they are now required to leave Latvia.
This move follows amendments to the Latvian Immigration Law, which came into force on June 20, 2024. Under the updated law, Russian citizens with permanent residence permits were obligated not only to submit documentation for the updated status but also to pass an exam in the Latvian language.
